Walking down Montague Street in the last week, you can’t help but notice a hive of activity around the former Original Factory Shop, as shopfitters transformed the empty property into a bright attractive store.
Discount retailer ‘Bargain Buys’ have announced their 57th and newest store will open in Rothesay on Saturday 23rd March at 10am, creating 20 new jobs; recruiting new members of staff (part and full time) from the local area and the previous Original Factory Shop to become part of the team.
A spokesperson for the store said: “We are excited to announce the official opening of a brand new Bargain Buys store, offering massive savings and fantastic bargains. To kick-start our official opening, we have over £3,000 worth of giveaways with our Store Opening Day Only Specials.
“We are further celebrating the grand opening from 10am with an action-packed Fun Day, offering activities that the whole family can enjoy! With our wonderful entertainer there’ll be excitement, balloons galore, and game shows with fantastic prize giveaways on offer, so make sure you don’t miss out!
The news of the new store has not been universally welcomed, with some concerns being expressed by other retailers that these new jobs could be at the expense of existing jobs in other small businesses in the town because of the chain’s ability to buy in bulk. One retailer said “I can’t buy some products for the price they are selling at!”
The opening day specials are definitely designed to attract customers into the store, with some products being offered at a fraction of their recommended retail price, for example, a Hyundai black curved fireplace, RRP £229 is on sale for £29.99, a saving of £199. Other offers include a double bed for £14.99 (RRP £99.99), or a glass TV stand for £9.99 (RRP £49.99.)
